At 20 years old, William recently completed his high school education at Ambira High School, where he achieved a remarkable B+ grade in his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE). His story began at Bridge International Academy in Kiserian, where his foundation in education was laid. It was at Bridge that William learned the value of hard work, the importance of asking teachers questions, and the discipline needed for pupils to excel in their studies. This was foundational knowledge that came to benefit him many years later.
Raised in a family overwhelmed by poverty, William’s parents, Eunice Achieng and John Okeyo struggled to make ends meet. His mother, a vegetable seller (mama mboga), and his father, who had no permanent job, did everything they could to support William’s education. However, the family faced a severe financial crisis, including a loan his mother had taken that caused continuous worry of being threatened of selling and seizing their belongings if they were unable to repay. Despite the hardships on the way, William pressed on and was determined to succeed.
Throughout his time at Ambira High School, William dedicated his time well to his studies. He consistently sought teacher consultations and made sure to ask questions to fully grasp the material. These habits, instilled in him during his formative years at Bridge, enabled him to achieve academic success.
William has a dream to pursue a degree in Pharmacy at Kenyatta University, with the ultimate goal of opening a hospital to serve the sick, the needy, and orphans in his community. His story is among the many that highlight the essential role Bridge International Academies Foundation is playing in easing the academic journey and aspirations of our young children. He truly will achieve his dream of becoming a leading pharmacist in Kenya.
