Mercy Achieng Ogolla, the third-born in a family of four siblings, has always been a bright and ambitious student. She was raised by her parents who struggled financially, but she was determined to achieve success in the end. She began her education at Siany Bridge Academy, located in Manyatta B, Kisumu, a school under the Bridge Academies Foundation. It was at Bridge where she received a strong foundation through quality education which empowered her to excel in many years to come.
After completing her primary education at Bridge, Mercy was accepted into the prestigious Alliance Girls High School, where she achieved an impressive Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade of A- (Minus). Even with the existing financial challenges her family faced, his father Phillip Ogolla Otieno, did everything within his means to ensure that her daughter continued to receive the best possible education.
Mercy’s elder siblings also pursued their academic dreams. The first-born achieved a B+ and studied at Karatina University, while the second-born, with a B plain, was enrolled at Rongo University. The youngest sibling, who also attended Bridge Academy, was still in school and will for sure achieve success as his elder brothers and sister.
Throughout her high school years, Mercy encountered major financial difficulties. Her father, who struggled to provide for the family, shared that Mercy had an outstanding school fee balance of KSh 138,000 at Alliance Girls High School. Despite this, she was graciously allowed to sit for her KCSE exams. The financial strain on the family meant that, at times, other parents had to assist Mercy with basic needs like shopping, fare, and pocket money while in school. The endurance and discipline she learned at Bridge Academy while a kid helped her pass through these tough challenges.
Mercy’s dream is to pursue a six-year course in medicine and surgery, either in Kenya or at any international university. However, her family’s financial situation has threatened to derail this aspiration. Her father has made an appeal to well-wishers for support to clear her school fee arrears and help Mercy take the next step toward achieving her dream of becoming a doctor.
Bridge’s impact on Mercy’s journey cannot be ignored. It provided her with the tools needed to excel academically and be a high-achieving student.
