Kerina Odhiambo Achieng has already set her sights on a future that promises to change the world. The determined 17-year-old girl from Rongai scored an impressive A- of 78 points in her Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams from St Albert Girls High School Ulanda in Migori County. Indeed the journey that began at a Bridge Academy is truly unfolding with promise. Her dream of becoming a medical doctor is now closer than ever.

Growing up, Kerina faced financial difficulties that could have easily stagnated her academic journey. Her father, David Odhiambo Odongo, had to take up a job as a security guard after losing his formal employment, and her mother worked tirelessly to support their family. Despite these hardships, her parents were able to support her education till she completed and passed with flying colors.

Her story with Bridge Academy began long before high school when she enrolled in one of the Bridge Academies in Rongai. This is the institution that laid the foundation for her success. The personalized attention and care she received from the teachers helped her realize her full potential and enabled her to build a love for learning.

As Kerina progressed through her studies in high school, the realities of financial struggles never disappeared. During the COVID-19 period, her father’s employment situation worsened, and paying for school fees became even more difficult. However, she remained focused and knew that her dreams of becoming a medical doctor were not just personal aspirations but a means of helping others in the community.

Kerina envisions herself studying medical surgery at the University of Nairobi. She hopes to contribute to the health sector and help the sick in the community. Her three siblings are also pursuing their education with determination. Two of her younger siblings are currently enrolled at Bridge Academy in Rongai. They are following in Kerina’s footsteps and benefiting from the same quality of education that shaped her success.
