Alumnus

Charles Gitau Irene, a 19-year-old with a passion for the skies, has risen above adversity to pursue his dream of becoming an aerospace engineer. From humble beginnings in Kiembeni, Mombasa, Charles began his academic journey at Bridge Kiembeni Mombasa, a Bridge Academy under the Bridge Academies Foundation. It was here that his path toward success was molded no matter all the odds against him.

Charles, now residing in Chania Ward, Thika, Kiambu, comes from a family struggling with poverty. His older sister has already completed her schooling, but the family’s financial challenges remain. The struggle to afford necessities like school fees, books, and even daily meals became a constant burden. Yet, through it all, he never wavered in his pursuit of education.

His determination paid off after he sat for his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams and scored an impressive B+. He has a dream to attend the University of Nairobi and study Aerospace or Aeronautical Engineering. Charles has always been fascinated by the science of flight, and he envisions a future where he can contribute to innovations that will take Kenya to new heights in the aerospace industry. However, the journey is far from over. His family continues to face financial hardships, and without a scholarship or sponsorship, Charles fears his dreams may remain grounded.

Bridge International Academies Foundation opened the door to his dreams while still a young pupil, and now, with the help of well-wishers, he is ready to take flight and reach for the stars.
