Nelly Njaga Shines in “Sigovilla” Event
A total of 95 birdies and one eagle lit up Sun- day’s Finaltus Investment and Bridge International “Sigovilla” Charity event, where 215 golfers gathered at the par-72 Sigona Golf Club to raise funds for underprivileged children’s school fees. The birdies, achieved by 69 golfers, were highlighted by Nancy Wairimu of Golf Park, who recorded five on her own. Job Kamau and Nyali’s William Kaguta each carded three birdies. The tournament’s lone eagle came courtesy of George Kamau on the par-five 15th hole.
As a result of the event, Finaltus will sponsor 95 students for a full term at Bridge International Academies Foundation under the Birdies for Education” initiative. The firm had pledged to fund one term of school fees for every birdie or eagle achieved during the tournament.
“During this back-to-school period, we have been privileged to partner with golfers to support school fees for underprivileged children. Both Finaltus and Bridge International Academies share a belief that quality education is not a privilege but a fundamental right essential to transforming generations,” said Paul Kamau, Executive Director of Finaltus, during the event.
Lady golfer Nelly Njaga, playing off handicap 21,claimed the top prize with an impressive nett score of 66, earning her the honour of delivering the winning speech. It was a close contest, with men’s winner Wesley Koech finishing just one stroke behind at 67 nett. Malinson Koech secured the men’s runner-up position with a nett 69.
Nancy Wairimu, a single-figure handicap golfer, posted a nett 71 to win the Ladies’ prize. Anthony Njenga and Job Kamau captured the two nines with scores of 30 and 31 nett,respectively.
Veteran golfer David Ndirangu, popularly known as “Kagia,” has appealed to golfers and supporters of the game across Kenya to contribute a minimum of Sh300 to aid Limuru Country Club following Saturday’s fire tragedy. Ndirangu, who has participated in the Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (series for over 40 years, emphasised the need for solidarity)
