Teacher Spotlight: Rose Kulundu
Helping Learners Find Their Voice Through Reading
For Rose Kulundu, teaching begins with a love for children and a passion for helping learners discover the confidence that comes with learning to read.
Rose started teaching at Bridge in 2010. She says she loves being around children and has a particular passion for reading and supporting learners, especially those in the lower grades where the journey of reading begins.
Over the years, teaching has moulded Rose into the person she is today. She describes herself as a proud mother, mentor and role model to many of the learners she has taught. Her experience has also taught her the importance of discipline, hard work and patience when supporting learners.
Supporting Every Learner
The training, coaching and support she has received at Bridge have helped Rose respond to the individual academic needs of her learners.
When a learner struggles with reading, she takes time to work with them individually. She guides them through reading steps, pronunciation and practice, supporting them until they gradually become more confident and fluent readers.
One experience that stands out for Rose is that of a learner who joined her class from a rural area and mainly spoke Luo. With time and individual support, the learner was able to read and speak English fluently by the time she left Rose’s class.
“This made me feel pleased and also appreciated.”
For Rose, moments like this are a reminder of the difference a teacher can make when they are patient, attentive and willing to meet a learner where they are.
Every Teacher Has a Special Touch
Rose believes every teacher has a special touch, or what she calls a “Midas Touch,” to help every learner achieve.
Her story is a reminder that teaching is not simply about delivering lessons. It is about understanding learners, identifying where they need support and giving them the patience and encouragement to keep growing.
As we reflect on World Teachers’ Day, we recognise Rose and teachers everywhere who help learners find their confidence, discover their abilities and take the next step in their learning journey.
Happy Teachers’ Day, Rose, and thank you for helping learners find their voice through reading.
“This made me feel pleased and also appreciated.” - Tr. Rose
